Zavkhan TB project team, November 2025
February 2026
During the first part of 2025, much of the activity — led by Dr Kunchok Dorjee of Johns Hopkins University (JHU) and Telo Tulku Rinpoche — to start the new project to stop the spread of TB in Kids in Mongolia, involved many discussions and meetings between JHU and Mongolia National TB Program authorities. Starting August 28, 2025, bi-weekly meetings were held with JHU team members, the Mongolia-based humanitarian assistance organization Diluv Hutuguthu (DHF), and local health teams and Mongolia government officials to plan and coordinate project implementation.
The project was officially launched in Zavkhan Province on October 29, 2025. Initially, screening of children for latent and active TB was performed at a single school to provide the team with experience with the screening procedures. Children found to be infected were put on appropriate drug therapies. Screenings and treatments will continue at other local schools and monasteries over the course of 2026. In addition, launch of the project in Ulaanbataar is planned for 2026.
