September 2020
SFI is pleased to announce that it will again collaborate with Limalimo Lodge and the local community of Dib Bahir to construct another block of four classrooms. The classrooms are intended to accommodate students in grades 9 and 10, ie, the beginning of high school. Presently, approximately 150 children in Dib Bahir and nearby villages attend high school in the town of Debark, located 12 miles away, where they stay during the week and return to be with their family on weekends. Sadly, not all are able to attend because of the expense of housing and food. Having a high school in Debark will make it possible for children to remain with their families and for more of them to continue their education. As with the initial project, SFI will provide the funding, Shiferaw Asrat, co-founder of Limalimo Lodge, and his colleague, Dejen Gestie, will provide oversight, and the local population will provide most of the labor. Work is scheduled to begin in October and is planned to be completed in time for the start of school in September 2021.
