After discussions with the new management team at the TB Dispensary in Elista, SFI has agreed to continue supporting the GeneXpert by providing assay cartridges. According to the laboratory, in the past year, 579 assays were performed, of which 102 were positive for TB (note that they only use the GeneXpert after preliminary screening using other tests). The chief physician, Dr. E. Shogdzhiev, the most important advantage of the GeneXpert is the high sensitivity of the assay along with the speed with which the result is obtained.
